A substantial Italian brass ecclesiastical floor candlestick c. 17th century.

Commanding scale rising to 117 cm, its sculptural form has a petalled drip-pan above a boldly turned and faceted shaft, raised on an elegant triform base with scrolling feet. The silhouette has a strong architectural quality, characteristic of Baroque church metalwork.

Pieces of this scale were intended to make an impression within an ecclesiastical interior, usually positioned within the church altar.
