Lead Putti Duo Fountain c.1860

A charming lead garden fountain portraying a pair of Putti Figures in each other’s arms whilst clasping a cornucopia. c.1860

One putti is sniffing the scent of the flower, as his mischievous friend holds it to his face knowing that the cornucopia shell will soon spout water over the unsuspecting cherub!

In the ancient classical world of art Putti were infants that were believed to influence human lives.
In Renaissance art, the form of the putto was derived in various ways including the Greek Eros or Roman Amor/Cupid, the god of love and companion of Aphrodite or Venus; the Roman, genius, a type of guardian spirit; or sometimes the Greek, a type of messenger spirit, being halfway between the realms of the human and the divine. By the late Victorian era and into the early 1900s, Putti such as this simply became representative of love.

An unusually large scale and amusing depiction which will being charm and joy to your garden integrated into a grotto scenario or within the centre of a pool, or simply enjoyed as a work of garden sculpture. Imagine the sound of water dancing into a pool below, brining serenity to your space.
